Giovanni Offredi was one of the most quietly significant figures of Italian postwar design — a Milanese architect who brought a sculptor's eye to furniture. These lounge chairs, made for Saporiti Italia in the 1970s, are quintessentially his: big, confident, and beautifully resolved. The form is architectural — generous in depth and height, with a slightly enveloping quality that makes them as comfortable as they look. Professionally restored and reupholstered in Melbourne in a soft brown bouclé fabric, they sit perfectly in either a mid-century interior or a contemporary one. A matching pair in this condition is a rare find.
