Rietveld designed the Utrecht armchair in 1935 whilst working for the Metz and Co department store in Amsterdam.

Further proof that good design never dates, this matching pair of Utrecht chairs in red wool was manufactured by Cassina, Italy in the 2000s.

These chairs are very comfortable despite their angular appearance.
