Vico Magistretti designed the Maralunga in 1973, and it won the Compasso d'Oro the following year — not for how it looked, though it does look beautiful, but for the mechanism: the headrests raise for reading or watching television, then fold flat when you want a cleaner profile. Cassina has kept it in continuous production ever since. This three-seater is upholstered in caramel wool-alpaca velvet — a warm, honeyed tone that works particularly well with timber and natural materials — and all headrests raise and lower smoothly. At 240 centimetres it is a genuinely generous three-seater with real presence.
