Designed by French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Swiss maker Vitra, the Alcove sofa is one of the defining pieces of early 21st-century furniture design. Its genius lies in what it does structurally: the high, enveloping back and channeled side panels create a sense of enclosure — a room within a room — while the cream wool upholstery and slim chrome tubular frame keep it light and contemporary. The Bouroullecs conceived it as an antidote to the open-plan office and open-plan home alike, offering privacy without walls. The Vitra maker’s label is intact, the upholstery is in excellent condition throughout, and all original cushions are included.
