Vintage Mid-Century Armless Siesta Lounge Chair, Cognac Leather — Ingmar Relling for Westnofa, Norway
INGMAR RELLING for WESTNOFA, Norway
Sold individually, A$2,850 each. Two available.
A vintage mid-century Siesta lounge chair, designed by Ingmar Relling in 1965 and made by Westnofa in Norway. It is one of the great pieces of Scandinavian modern design. Westnofa bent laminated wood into the chair's long S-curve, so it stands on four cantilevered legs. This is the rarer armless, low-back version. The frame is black-lacquered bentwood, with nothing to break its line.
A black canvas sling is laced to the back with rows of eyelets. Over it lies a single loose cushion that forms both seat and back, newly upholstered in cognac leather, smooth and tan-brown with soft piped edges. The new leather will deepen in colour as it creases, the way good leather should. A Norwegian lounge chair that suits a mid-century interior or a contemporary one, and looks as good from behind as from the front.
Approx. 80H × 62W × 80D cm.
